What Inspires Me - Artist's Play Room

Now I know that this is not a friendly face!  But for some reason I began drawing her yesterday while I was (not!) watching TV.  I was thinking about Jenn's  challenge for this week - "What inspires you?"  My first thought - What doesn't inspire me?  Almost everything does - though I can't always turn that inspiration into the picture I see. Color really inspires me - so does nature and form and shape.  Then when I was sketching and coloring last night I thought - what really inspires me is that there are pictures in my head that I can translate onto paper.  It is exciting to be able to do that at any skill level.  There is beauty in just about everything I see - and I love that the beauty around me leaves me pictures in my mind.  So this girl isn't prettyl or  happy looking - but it makes me happy to take her from my head to paper.  She is colored with Copic markers - which are always fun to work with.  I guess my art supplies inspire me as well - LOL!  Thanks for visiting - check Jenn's blog at

and think about what inspires you!

  1. You achieved some nice shading here on her eyes and neck, also I like the whimsical colors in her hair. And for the question: Everything inspires me which is good, except that I get inspiration overload sometimes and then I tend to freeze.

  3. And that's what it's all about....getting it from head to paper/canvas. I like how you did her hair. :)

    1. Thanks - I guess we all want hair like this. I always wanted that style when I was in high school - but my hair does not behave itself! And the color! I am an art supply addict by the way - nothing makes me happier than new supplies!

  7. It is wonderful that you can put your creative imaginings on paper. I totally need a reference, or everything I did would be off kilter and missing parts! I love her hair!

  8. The colouring on your ladies hair is fabulous. When I first looked at her I thought she was sad, like when you have just eaten your last chocolate. What inspires you is very inspiring (if that makes sense). I would love to be able to put things in my head onto paper but I too need a reference. My hands and brain don't seem to communicate that well :) Beautiful picture.

  9. BEautimous and I so understand when you say What DOESN'T inspire me? It is funny when we have something in our head how difficult it can BE to transfer into the Light for all to see. I have always been challenged by my drawing so I use my camera and other ways to find the shapes and things I most want to capture and show. I DO think that the face can BE interpreted in many other ways than just sad. that's what is fascinating about faces, really. what you see what I see...

  10. she looks more thoughtful than unhappy, and the hair is rad! It IS fun to translate what's in one's head to art - I would imagine that this is the first urge that led most artists to become that
