Party under the sea

This was an 8x8 canvas that wasn't working.  I thought I had a previous picture of it but I can't find that.  Trust me - it looked nothing like this.  I'm not finished with this painting - If you look closely, the mermaid's right hand is missing (it was about 2x the size of the other hand - not a good look!)  I have a bit of painting left to do (add a bit of color here and there) but I am liking this one.  I do have to put a flame on the candle - a little surrealism is a good thing. I have to say that I was motivated to work on this by the fabulous Tamara Laporte whose lesson on Life Book 2013 this week dealt with drawing  figures (hers had legs though)  If you would like to check out all the excitement you can look here - it's a year long class with 21 different teachers.  I also have another "failure" in my studio. Hopefully I'll have something to post on that next week.  I've been applying layers of color and texture - waiting to see how it speaks to me.  I'm linking up with Paint Party Friday  - definitely worth a look to see what other artists have posted.  Maybe you would like to post something yourself - you will find yourself part of a wonderful supportive group there.  Thank you so much for stopping by to see what I'm up to - if you would like to leave a comment I would love to see it!

  8. What a beautiful mermaid, Gina! Her lovely face makes it such a nice underwater scene. I didn't even notice the lack of hand.

  9. What a great opportunity to participate in a year-long workshop with different artists!
I like the party-scene under the sea! I'll have to show my daughter, she has just done a
sea-painting herself, with lots of fish and water creatures.

I'll post my skirt-art peace again I think, just have to take some pictures.

    Happy PPF!
