Summer of Color week 2 +

And the greatest of these is love
alligator in Savannah wildlife refuge

To the left is my latest bald lady.  Layers of paint, stencils and collage are my favorite techniques and are found here.  I also used some Pan Pastels on her face.  I find that I pay more attention to features and structure this way - I often use hair as a way to cover wonky head shape or face elements.  I am a great admirer of Pam Carriker's portraits (and her art in general).  I love the way she "architects" portraits that are built on musculature and bone structure - but are still full of so much character.  (and I get to take a class with her in Saluda NC in October - wahoo!!!).  The photo is from the Savannah wildlife preserve from a trip yesterday with my grandson.  Sadly we only saw 2 alligators - he was hoping for more.  Below is evidence that I am also sketching the other half of the human race - this man was in a Sunday paper magazine section - his face is a bit wider than IRL - but otherwise close to how he looked.  This was meant to be a quick sketch so i didn't go back to fix much.

The lady is my entry for Summer of Color (not Color of Summer as i called it last week).  You can find the challenge here - Go check all the wonderful art there and participate yourself.  This week was orange and hot pink.  I am also linking to Paint Party Friday hosted by Eva and Kristin - more eye candy to view!  Thanks so much for stopping by to take a look - have a blessed and art filled day.

  24. It is so wonderful to see a face that is different from the ordinary run, and your bald lady is beautiful. Occasionally I see a girl or woman with a shaven head, and think how lovely she looks, and your 'love' lady is so perfectly done. And somehow it's only now, on scrolling back to look at her again that I see the heart on her cheek! Your background fits with her so well.
It's so nice to have you among my 'followers', I'm so glad to see you there - thank you.

  25. I love her eyes and her cap is just charming! What a neat shot of the alligator. I almost never draw the other half of the human race, when I do, they tend to end up looking like women anyway...
