Summer of Color Week 3 and finished angel

I bought the prettiest eggplants at the farmer's market last week - and since the SOC challenge for this week was to use lavender, plum and grey I thought they would be a great subject. They are not so blue looking IRL - more plum with a bit of lavender (I know supposed to be the other way around).  I love purples but I am not so good with the tints and shades.  I thought (no I had) ruined this - but took a pair of scissors and cut out the eggplant and made a new background and they were saved.  Now to cook and eat them!!!

I added some detail to my angel with parasol and some more color for increased contrast and I like her.  All my angels lately have had "big hair".  Don't quite know why; that's just the way they grew as I painted.  On both these pieces I have used oil pastels over some of the paint and I am really loving them.  I have a very inexpensive set but may invest in better ones since I am using them so consistently.  I think I like anything I can kind of fingerpaint with!

I will be linking to  Summer of Color 2014 and Paint Party Friday.  You will be amazed by the wide variety of lovely art on these 2 sites - so go and visit and even better join in the fun.  No experience necessary.

Thanks so much for visiting - please leave a comment if you have time.  Have a blessed and creative day.

    1. most of my commentators have said they hate eggplant (aubergine). It really depends on how they are cooked. Thanks for stopping by.

  7. Fabulous page with the eggplant. I've never tried it, and not sure I want to, but they always look very tempting and pretty in the shops :D

    1. Depends on how they are cooked - the mini ones (like here) are more tender and less full of seeds. Thanks for stopping by

  18. Gorgeous eggplants. We call them aubergines in Europe. Your painting is as tasty as the eggplants themselves are. Love the geometric shapes in the background.
