29 Days of Faces September - Day 6

in the 8x10 mat
close up
I'm just on time today.  I have used this challenge to move myself along with my little woman paintings.  They are all done on ATC's (artist trading cards - 2.5 x 3.5) and the hair is collaged with vintage dictionary pages.   It does take a bit of practice to work in such a small space - but I think I am learning control and getting much more drawing in.  The background on this one was done with a couple of colors of Twinks (twinkling H2O's a shimmery waterpaint in a pot).  I am also linking to Paint Party Friday since I hate to miss a week and it is after all Friday!!!  PPF is hosted by the wonderful Eva and Kristin.  29 Faces is being hosted by the equally wonderful Martha of AyalaArt here.  Stop by both of these sites and see some absolutely gorgeous art.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful art filled weekend.

  1. Way cool! I've done a few ATCs and know how hard it is to fit very much on that area. This looks wonderful. Some days I'd be the first to swap my hair for a few good vintage dictionary pages!

    1. Me too Faye - hair can be a challenge. The ATC size definitely takes practice but I think it makes me very aware of every feature and gives me more control. The more I do it - the more I like it though I'm not giving up larger art at all.

  2. I love that background and her hair is lovely. I haven't managed to try an ACEO original, I admire the skill it takes to work so small!

    1. It's really just practice - I guess I'm a fairly detail oriented person - but many of my earlier ones were not keepers! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  3. I love the volume the collaged hair gives to your portrait, and the large mat gives so much more power to the ATC sized piece of art. Blessings!

    1. Thanks Arnoldo - I'm a great fan of texture and the texture of collage is a favorite. I love tiny art in bigger mats - I have some framed I need to photograph. Thanks so much for stopping by - blessings to you too.

  10. A beautiful piece -- especially consider the small size of the workspace. The collaged papers in the hair are the perfect touch.
