Today I picked up a paint brush!

Just a few caveats.  I did not paint the chicken in the same lighting as this picture.  I am my own worst critic and I know that many things are way off in the sketch.  However, I am proud of myself in that I used the dreaded watercolors to paint the chick and stuck with it.  I did use one of my free Conte pastel pencils (they are great) in a blue to add to the shadows and a drop of white fluid acrylic to lighten up the highlights.  Actually looking at the opening on top of the creamer (that's what it is) I can see how "off" it is.  But mainly, I am pleased that I tackled something that involved paint (it's been about 3 weeks since I have felt inspired to do so) and I worked with watercolor.  I've missed a couple of weeks of Paint Party Friday - so I'm linking to it here.  Go and check out all the fabulous artists who participate.  And much thanks to Eva and Kristin for continuing to host PPF.  Thanks for stopping by - feel free to leave a comment!!  LOVE to hear from you.

    1. We are always hardest on ourselves - I actually like the colors - it's the actual sketch I see issues with! But thank you for your encouraging comment.

  4. I think the chicken looks terrific. 'Dreaded' watercolors. Yep, they are a bit tricky, but we'll get the best of them yet. Blessings, Janet PPF

  6. Hi Gina. I think it is perfect. The colors are soft and pretty.

Watercolors used to be my favorite medium but now I love to work with pastels. They are messy but lots of fun.

    1. Watercolors have never been my medium - before I used them I figured "how hard can they be?" We all used watercolors (those little pans) in school! I don't use pastel sticks - but I love using PanPastels - not as messy and great color.
